Updated at: 28-February-2006 (15:40UTC).

According to AMSAT-BB
postings, the AJ3U website and the ARRl website, the
last time SuitSat was heard was by N2SPI on Feb 17 at 10:59 UTC. ANYBODY
have a report of hearing anything (especially telemetry) from SuitSat after
that time?

SUITSAT passes at 17 February!
At 17-feb I've monitored 2 SUITSAT passes, in one pass I've received
a good SUITSAT signal with the American message with the special word FREEDOM!
After 30 seconds you hear SSTV.
Listen here American msg from PD0RKC (mp3 audio download).
An pass earlier I've
heard (weak) the Russian message.
Listen here Russian msg from PD0RKC (mp3 audio download).
At 15 February
I received SSTV from SUITSAT (whole period with QSB).
Listen here SSTV from SUITSAT received by PD0RKC AT 15-feb (mp3 audio download).
The ISS passes are in the night of Holland so at 16-feb went early to bed
and
set the Alarm in my clock.
At 16-feb-2006 (01:20UTC)
I received the SUITSAT id: This is SUITSAT 1 amateur-
radio station RS0RS, a part of telemetry and
after 30 seconds noise you hear the Russian voice message.
Telemetry:
Mission time: ?..732..?
Temp:?
Battery voltage: 26.?
Maybe someone
(with good ears) can find more in my recording:
Listen here telemtry, Russian msg from SUITSAT received by PD0RKC at 16-feb
(mp3 audio download).
Also in the last high elevation (52 degrees) pass (at 16-feb, 02:55UTC) I
heard the
SUITSAT id with (noisy) parts of the Japanese message.
Here is the audio recording:

The good news is
that I've received good SUITSAT SSTV signals at 15-feb.
My 12el X yagi is installed with 50 degrees elevation (no elevation rotator).
So I would say
to all (those who have no elevation rotators) put your yagi
with high elevation in the mast and I'm sure you will receive SUITSAT even
when you do not have a preamp.
So do not give up, and go hunt for the SUITSAT signals (and certificate!).
It is NOT too late!!!!!!

P.s. tnx N5VHO for advise!
I have spoken to my friend Fabiano
(PY5RX) and I've asked him
if he would say to Bill McArthur (NA1SS) that SUITSAT is still heard on the
ground.
And today (12-feb-2006) there was a good pass on Curitiba Brazil, so Fabiano
could inform Bill about the SUITSAT activities on grond.
You can listen to the audio recording:
Listen here PY5RX NA1SS audio file (mp3 audio download).
Fabiano: CQ NA1SS PY5RX.
Bill: PY5RX NA1SS good morning.
Fabiano: Okay Bill good morning hello welcome to Brasil again
thank you, Bill -
SUITSAT is still alive, many recordings on internet very good.
Bill: Ah I'm glad to hear that many recordings on the internet,
you operators on
the ground doing a wonderful job, thank you!
Fabiano: Okay thank you very much Bill 73, okay, thank you for the contact bye, bye.
Bill: Bye, bye.

At 4 februari astronaut McArthur
was voice active above USA and he talked about SUITSAT.
Astronaut McArthur: about batteries and he tried to listen to the SUITSAT
signal!
Listen here NA1SS about SUITSAT 04-feb-2006 (WAV audio download).
Astronaut McArthur said:
Well you know where there is a will there is a way,
so
maybe folks we will
try again we've got more suits
that need to be jettison, actualy it was
pretty well setup and it wasn't that difficult for us to execute.
Thats what we've heard as soon as we came in the
hatch yesterday a few minutes later I turned on the radio we should have
been pretty close and didn't hear anything!
You know my source was the houston chronical newspaper, this morning and thats
what I've read, although its the
same battery we use in our space suits so I would think
they would handle the temperature but its hard to say ofcourse or bodies
produceing heat and so maybe that keeps the batteries warm but the batteries
are actualy are in an external compartiment on the space suit.
PD0RKC comment:
We know from later reports (DF7IT, ZS6TW audio recordings!) that SUITSAT was
alive!!!
So its likely that suitsat was off for a period and became alive, so I hope
all keep monitoring
the SUITSAT signals (day and/or night times!).
Well we heard Bill McArthur saying that it is maybe worth to trie this event
again (enough suits).
So I hope the ARISS (AMSAT, NASA....) team will think about the next suit
challance!!
For so far I would thank all people who worked on this nice project!
I hope next time we all have more luck!
Tnx WA6LIE for the NA1SS audio
file!

SuitSat to be launched Friday February 3
A Extra-Vehicular
Activity (EVA)-or Spacewalk will be conducted on the
International Space Station (ISS) Friday 3 February
2006.
During this spacewalk, the ISS crew will push a discarded Russian spacesuit
-
overboard with no humans in it, of course!
The “Orlan”
spacesuit has been modified to carry an amateur radio station
and has been dubbed Suitsat-1 (also called Radioskaf or Radio Sputnik in Russian).
The image above
shows SuitSat in it's flight configuration.
You can see the electronics control panel on the top of the helmet
along with the SuitSat antenna.
A new handle has been added around the midsection of the suit (black stripes).
The handle is an important addition that will allow the astro/cosmonaut
launching the suit to move it safely.
SuitSat-1 carries
an amateur radio transmitter but no receiver.
It will broadcast a 1 watt signal on 145.990 MHz FM.
One of the reasons the Russian ARISS branch, conducted by Sergei Samburov
RV3DR,
were interested in developping SuitSat was an on-orbit commemoration
of the 175st anniversary of the Bauman Moscow State Technical university.
This university is where many of the engineers in the Russian Space Agency
graduated.
As a result, the Russian generated messages include congratulatory
comments to the Bauman Moscow State Technical University.
In addition to
the messages from Russia, there are voice messages from
students in Japan, Europe (Spanish and German), Canada (French) and the USA.
Several of the student messages include a special word.
One student project for SuitSat is to copy all the special
words (in different languages) and submit them to the ARISS team
for special educational award recognition.
Moreover, telemetry
data will also be included in the transmit cycle.
Battery voltage, onboard temperature and elapsed time since launch will be
generated in English by an integrated voice synthetizer.
Finally, an SSTV (Slow Scan Television) image is also provided.
The total transmit
cycle is about 8 minutes.
Messages are separated by no-transmit periodes to aleviate the duty cycle.
The batteries will probably be empty after only a few days.
SuitSat-1 will deorbit in several weeks, but will become silent within a week
or so.
Launch is expected
to occur Friday 3 February at about 22:20 UTC.
The transmitter will become active 15 minutes later.
This delay has been provided to protect the astro/cosmonauts.
SuitSat-1 will
slowly depart from the ISS orbit.
Its is hoped that special SuitSat Kepler data will become available soon.
The signals can
be picked up with VHF radio receivers tuned to 145.990 MHz.
Moreover, the ISS onboard station NA1SS will relay SuitSat-1 signals on 437.800
MHz FM.
Those who hear
SuitSat transmissions are asked to enter their
data on the SuitSat website, http://www.suitsat.org
so that participants
around the world can track the satellite.
Educational Outreach
reports (at schools or informal education sites) as
well as Slow Scan TV images can be sent to suitsat (at) comcast.net .
This information will be compiled by the ARISS team.
Success!
